PLACES/THERE
These photo/paint collages serve as observational journals and interpretations of places that I have travelled to over the past several years.
Each locale reveals particular visual and cultural cues that guide my creative choices when I make these collages. Ancient and diverse histories, cultural traditions, and the atmospheric quality of light unique to each place suggest distinct palettes and compositions for the work. The photographs I take trigger the accuracy or distortions of my memory. The process of disassembling and re-composing the images allows me to create a new composite of what I find to be the most engaging aspects of a place, long after I have left.
