About

Suzanne Skon

Over time, I have explored many mediums and processes. Rather than identify myself with a single discipline (painter, drawer, sculptor, or installation artist), I try to adapt my practice of making to engaging with the medium that I feel will best express my ideas.

I worked for several years in both 2 -D and 3-D, including installations. Recently, I have desired to work smaller: I want an intimacy in my work, both in scale and the process of making it. The sense of place and the passage of time conveyed in my photo and paint collages seem important to mark. The re-compositions of these places—according to my personal memory and selective aesthetics-- recognizes the subjective, and sometimes myopic, lens through which we each observe the world around us.

I believe that one of the greatest gifts of being an artist is experiencing the world in an amplified way. This can be overwhelming. But it can lead to contemplation and gratitude. I believe that inspiration is everywhere, including in the shadows. I look and expect to continue to be surprised, confounded and hopefully enlightened by it all.
