EDGES

I made these drawings during a time of transition. The drawings are, literally, of edges---torn borders of paper. At the time of their making, I was on an edge myself—a precipice of uncertainty about where I was going next creatively. Initially, the subject matter for the drawings was completely elusive to me; I only knew that I wanted to draw something. I prepared for this task by stalling, and began to tear the perimeters off myriad pieces of paper. The curled, little piles of torn edges of paper grew on my table, and met with the sunlight shining through my studio window. The day lengthened, I brooded about subject matter, shadows formed. And the drawings revealed themselves.
